Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai, a prominent multi-speciality quaternary care hospital in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, recently announced its eighth successful heart transplant surgery. This monumental achievement underscores Apollo’s commitment to world-class healthcare provision and the dedication of its skilled medical team.

The patient, a 40-year-old male from Buldhana, Maharashtra, was diagnosed with a rare condition called Amyloidosis. This condition, marked by abnormal protein build-up in various body organs, had adversely affected his heart, leading to heart failure. The only viable treatment was a heart transplant.

After being placed on the transplant waiting list, the patient received his new heart on April 4th, 2023. Thanks to Apollo’s expert heart transplant team, the operation was a success. Despite the financial constraints faced by the patient, Apollo ensured the availability of quality healthcare through trust and crowd funding.

“Recognizing the severity of his condition, we immediately began symptomatic management and after counselling, put the patient on the transplant waiting list,” said Dr. Sanjeev Jadhav, Consultant, CVTS, Heart & Lung Transplant Surgery at Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai. “This case is an example of the power of medical science, and the importance of organ donation.”

This successful surgery stands as a testament to Apollo Hospitals’ commitment to providing advanced health services that are at par with the best in the world. With a multidisciplinary team facilitated by post-operative care, competent nursing staff, rehab program, and a heart failure clinic, AHNM runs an active transplant program comprising liver, kidney, heart & corneal transplants.
