“Miracle in the Making”: Ramkrishna Care Hospital Performs Rare Surgery with Da Vinci Robot

A 65-year-old woman from Bilaspur has undergone a miracle in the making at Ramkrishna Care Hospitals, thanks to the cutting-edge robotic surgery system, da Vinci by US-based Intuitive. The woman was suffering from a rare autoimmune disease called Ocular Myasthenia Gravis, which causes eye muscle fatigue and prolonged weakness in the muscles.

Dr. Sandeep Dave, a veteran general surgeon at Ramakrishna Care Hospital, recommended a robotic thymectomy (removal of thymus) after a thorough evaluation and a CECT scan revealed a tumor causing the Myasthenia Gravis. The robotic thymectomy was chosen over the traditional open surgical method for its numerous benefits, including less post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay, prompt mobilization, and faster chest drain removal.

The surgery was a success, and the patient was able to recover quickly with minimal pain and scarring. Dr. Sandeep Dave said, “We are thrilled with the successful outcome of the Robotic Thymectomy. With advanced surgical technologies like da Vinci, we now have the option to perform these procedures with more precision and with fewer post-surgical complications.”

Ramkrishna Care Hospitals is the first hospital in the state of Chhattisgarh to introduce robotic-assisted surgery, and with the advanced da Vinci system, surgeons are now able to perform various procedures, including hernia surgeries, colorectal surgeries, and hysterectomies, with a minimally invasive approach. The patient is currently undergoing periodic follow-ups and is recovering well
